Five Essential Practices For Every Pool Owner

Mar 17, 2025

Regular Visual Inspection

Look for anything abnormal:

  • Check your filter pressure
  • Check your pool finishes
  • Check your pool for dust and debris
  • Check your pool run schedule
  • Check your pool skimmer baskets
  • Check your pump baskets
  • Check your water flow
  • Look for constantly wet areas around your pool
  • Look for leaks around your equipment
  • Note any cracks or deck movement
  • Note any loud noise when your pool is running
  • Note your water level

Cleaning

  • Using a pool net, remove any debris from your pool asap
  • Using a pool brush, sweep all wet surfaces regularly, for most pools in the DFW area this is twice weekly. If you live in the country on farmland sweeping may be needed more often
  • Empty Skimmer baskets and pump baskets as soon as debris is found in them
  • Keep an automatic pool cleaner in the pool and empty any debris captured in the bag/filter asap

Circulation

  • Run your filter pump daily
  • Make seasonal adjustments quarterly
  • Check your filter pressure weekly, high pressure means poor circulation and you need filter service

Chemistry

  • Run a balanced pool all year long to protect your pool finishes
  • Sanitize your pool efficiently and effectively
  • Test for phosphates and other metals monthly
